However, excess weight in childhood must be treated timely and correctly.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-10554 alignnone\" src=\"https:\/\/www.athenstrainers.gr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/children-eating-300x166.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"166\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.athenstrainers.gr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/children-eating-300x166.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.athenstrainers.gr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/children-eating-200x111.jpg 200w, https:\/\/www.athenstrainers.gr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/children-eating-400x221.jpg 400w, https:\/\/www.athenstrainers.gr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/children-eating-600x332.jpg 600w, https:\/\/www.athenstrainers.gr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/children-eating.jpg 672w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The first step to this direction is to set up a healthy diet plan and increase physical activity.<\/p>\n<p>The paediatrician will give you the right guidelines, by evaluating whether a child is overweight or obese, according to the growth curves and the child\u2019s age.<br \/>\nYou can then visit a special nutritionist, who shall co-operate with your paediatrician and give you nutritional advice, guidelines and, if necessary, a specific diet scheme. A child must be over the age of 6 to be able to follow a diet scheme. In younger ages, diets are not advisable and if a child is overweight or obese there are other practices to follow.<\/p>\n<p>\u25cf Make sure that the child eats 5 meals every day (breakfast, snack, lunch, snack, dinner).<\/p>\n<p>\u25cf Increase fruit and vegetable consumption.<\/p>\n<p>\u25cf Add healthy products to your kitchen. Whole wheat cereals for breakfast, raw cane or dark brown sugar instead of white sugar in sweets, oat flakes in confectionary and cooking, brown rice or wholegrain rice instead of white, whole wheat pasta, ricecakes for snack.<\/p>\n<p>\u25cf Give the child water when thirsty but avoid other liquids.<\/p>\n<p>\u25cf Encourage your child to get involved with sports.<\/p>\n<p><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-10556 alignnone\" src=\"https:\/\/www.athenstrainers.gr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/Kids-eating-healthy-300x215.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"215\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.athenstrainers.gr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/Kids-eating-healthy-300x214.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.athenstrainers.gr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/Kids-eating-healthy-200x143.jpg 200w, https:\/\/www.athenstrainers.gr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/Kids-eating-healthy.jpg 400w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>An overweight child is more likely to develop psychological problems as a result of the attitude of other same-age children towards him\/her.
