When we put pressure on the wrist, there are two support areas that are able to support the body&#8217;s weight for shorts periods of time.<\/p>\n<p>First Support Area &#8211; Close to the Forearm<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-22487 alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/www.athenstrainers.gr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/tbow-wirist3.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"227\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.athenstrainers.gr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/tbow-wirist3.jpg 500w, https:\/\/www.athenstrainers.gr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/tbow-wirist3-300x136.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 16px;\">We are on the second row of carpal bones, at the carpal tunnel, where nine tendons and the median nerve pass through this grooved area, held together by the anterior annular ligament.<\/span><br \/>\n<strong style=\"font-size: 16px;\">Generally, the carpal tunnel does not provide very good support for the body&#8217;s weight.<\/strong><\/p>\n<div data-hook=\"rcv-block14\"><span style=\"font-size: 16px;\">This area is delicated because it&#8217;s made up of many small bones (and varied components) and its skin is thin.<\/span><\/div>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-22489 alignnone\" src=\"https:\/\/www.athenstrainers.gr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/tbow-wirist4.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"278\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.athenstrainers.gr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/tbow-wirist4.jpg 500w, https:\/\/www.athenstrainers.gr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/tbow-wirist4-300x167.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/p>\n<div data-breakout=\"normal\">\n<p id=\"viewer-ialpk3529\" class=\"dEt5S sjVPj J7otF nEzPS\" dir=\"auto\"><span class=\"Q-E3F\">The second support area is right where the palm starts, where the bodies of the metacarpals start. <\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div data-hook=\"rcv-block19\"><span style=\"font-size: 16px;\">Here, the hand is a bit broader and fleshier, tendons are less grouped (have gebun to separate toward their respective fingers), are the branched endings of the median nerve which serve the hand, and there is the medial palmar apneurosis.<\/span><\/div>\n<div data-hook=\"rcv-block20\"><strong style=\"font-size: 16px;\">This second area is a more suitable support for the weight of the body<\/strong><span style=\"font-size: 16px;\">, because the greater muscle mass of the palm lessen the impact of pressure on the structures below.<\/span><\/div>\n<div data-breakout=\"normal\">\n<hr \/>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p class=\"dEt5S sjVPj J7otF nEzPS\" dir=\"auto\"><strong style=\"font-size: 16px;\">However, neither area is able to support the body&#8217;s weight for very long <\/strong><strong style=\"font-size: 16px;\">without creating problems.<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div data-breakout=\"normal\">\n<p id=\"viewer-ajdyo30612\" class=\"dEt5S sjVPj _3kxAM nEzPS\" dir=\"auto\"><span class=\"Q-E3F\">&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div data-breakout=\"normal\">\n<ul class=\"SAyZs J7otF\">\n<li class=\"rn-r2\" dir=\"auto\" aria-level=\"1\">\n<p id=\"viewer-vibkp207212\" class=\"dEt5S sjVPj _3kxAM nEzPS\" dir=\"\"><span class=\"Q-E3F\">The wrist is relatively weak, as well as vulnerable to injury.<\/span><\/p>\n<ul class=\"SAyZs J7otF\">\n<li class=\"rn-r2\" dir=\"auto\" aria-level=\"2\">\n<p id=\"viewer-sgucm213185\" class=\"dEt5S sjVPj _3kxAM nEzPS\" dir=\"\"><span class=\"Q-E3F\">Absence of muscle mass. The wrist lack strength because no muscle cross the joint (it is crossed by tendons).<\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"rn-r2\" dir=\"auto\" aria-level=\"2\">\n<p id=\"viewer-zxn5q222166\" class=\"dEt5S sjVPj _3kxAM nEzPS\" dir=\"\"><span class=\"Q-E3F\">An area very dense with tendons which mobilize the hand and wrist (crossing the front for flexion and the back for extension, and both for lateral inclination), can easily become irritated and painful.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"rn-r2\" dir=\"auto\" aria-level=\"2\">\n<p id=\"viewer-b1d3d240150\" class=\"dEt5S sjVPj _3kxAM nEzPS\" dir=\"\"><span class=\"Q-E3F\">The position of the wrist that best facilitates the positioning of the fingers for action is slight extension (about 30\u00ba).<\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"rn-r2\" dir=\"auto\" aria-level=\"2\">\n<p id=\"viewer-xaw68259352\" class=\"dEt5S sjVPj _3kxAM nEzPS\" dir=\"\"><span class=\"Q-E3F\">Functional grip position: extend the wrist and incline it a bit internally.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"rn-r2\" dir=\"auto\" aria-level=\"2\">\n<p id=\"viewer-vp2se267258\" class=\"dEt5S sjVPj _3kxAM nEzPS\" dir=\"\"><span class=\"Q-E3F\">The wrist in Hyperextension (angle increases to 60\u00ba &#8211; 80\u00ba) is a very extreme position.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<div data-hook=\"rcv-block26\"><strong style=\"font-size: 16px;\">Pressure Consequences<\/strong><\/div>\n<div data-breakout=\"normal\">\n<ul class=\"SAyZs J7otF\">\n<li class=\"rn-r2\" dir=\"auto\" aria-level=\"1\">\n<p id=\"viewer-5vwuy15734\" class=\"dEt5S sjVPj J7otF nEzPS\" dir=\"\"><span class=\"Q-E3F\"><strong>Positioning the Pressure<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p id=\"viewer-yk3do72564\" class=\"dEt5S sjVPj J7otF nEzPS\" dir=\"\"><span class=\"Q-E3F\">We can shift the pressure to the inside, middle or outside, finding anatomical elements that make the additional pressure more or less acceptable.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<div data-breakout=\"normal\">\n<ul class=\"SAyZs J7otF\">\n<li class=\"rn-r2\" dir=\"auto\" aria-level=\"1\">\n<p id=\"viewer-kvsu266580\" class=\"dEt5S sjVPj J7otF nEzPS\" dir=\"\"><span class=\"Q-E3F\"><strong>The Carpal Area (Three Regions of the First Zone)<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<ul class=\"SAyZs J7otF\">\n<li class=\"rn-r2\" dir=\"auto\" aria-level=\"2\">\n<p id=\"viewer-8ia1d78988\" class=\"dEt5S sjVPj J7otF nEzPS\" dir=\"\"><span class=\"Q-E3F\"><strong><em>Pressure on the Little Finger Side<\/em><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p id=\"viewer-08umf82628\" class=\"dEt5S sjVPj J7otF nEzPS\" dir=\"\"><span class=\"Q-E3F\">The hamate and\/or pisiform bones are sensitive.<\/span><\/p>\n<p id=\"viewer-f7mx787174\" class=\"dEt5S sjVPj J7otF nEzPS\" dir=\"\"><span class=\"Q-E3F\">The cubital nerve terminates here and repeated pressure on it can cause tingling in the little finger.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"rn-r2\" dir=\"auto\" aria-level=\"2\">\n<p id=\"viewer-ekqe580548\" class=\"dEt5S sjVPj J7otF nEzPS\" dir=\"\"><span class=\"Q-E3F\"><strong><em>Pressure in the Middle of the Carpal Tunnel<\/em><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p id=\"viewer-cllpc91548\" class=\"dEt5S sjVPj J7otF nEzPS\" dir=\"\"><span class=\"Q-E3F\">Prolonged pressure can cause compression of the tendons of four fingers and in the fluid of their common sheath.<\/span><\/p>\n<p id=\"viewer-555l599209\" class=\"dEt5S sjVPj J7otF nEzPS\" dir=\"\"><span class=\"Q-E3F\">Compression of the median nerve can result in tingling or pain in the palm and the last four fingers.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"rn-r2\" dir=\"auto\" aria-level=\"2\">\n<p id=\"viewer-17phu81470\" class=\"dEt5S sjVPj J7otF nEzPS\" dir=\"\"><span class=\"Q-E3F\"><strong><em>Pressure on the Thumb Side<\/em><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p id=\"viewer-tsmel104206\" class=\"dEt5S sjVPj J7otF nEzPS\" dir=\"\"><span class=\"Q-E3F\">Pressure on the trapezium bone may not be desirable (sensitive, annular ligament and intrinsec muscles of the thumb attached to it, flexor tendon of the thumb is close, repeated pressure can compress the median nerve).<\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<div data-breakout=\"normal\">\n<ul class=\"SAyZs J7otF\">\n<li class=\"rn-r2\" dir=\"auto\" aria-level=\"1\">\n<p id=\"viewer-6ok3z69678\" class=\"dEt5S sjVPj J7otF nEzPS\" dir=\"\"><span class=\"Q-E3F\"><strong>The Base of the Palm (Three Regions of the Second Zone)<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p id=\"viewer-9maj5119412\" class=\"dEt5S sjVPj J7otF nEzPS\" dir=\"\"><span class=\"Q-E3F\">In general, <strong>the areas of this second zone<\/strong> are somewhat stronger than those of the first zone and <strong>are better able to withstand the body&#8217;s pressure<\/strong>.<\/span><\/p>\n<ul class=\"SAyZs J7otF\">\n<li class=\"rn-r2\" dir=\"auto\" aria-level=\"2\">\n<p id=\"viewer-n6eh782581\" class=\"dEt5S sjVPj J7otF nEzPS\" dir=\"\"><span class=\"Q-E3F\"><strong><em>Pressure on the Little Finger Side<\/em><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p id=\"viewer-r1l8m119307\" class=\"dEt5S sjVPj J7otF nEzPS\" dir=\"\"><span class=\"Q-E3F\">Pressure falls on the three small muscles that lead to the little finger (the bone is not directly under the skin).<\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"rn-r2\" dir=\"auto\" aria-level=\"2\">\n<p id=\"viewer-khkmj136880\" class=\"dEt5S sjVPj J7otF nEzPS\" dir=\"\"><span class=\"Q-E3F\">Pressure over time can irritate the cubital nerve, causing tingling and numbness in certain fingers.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"rn-r2\" dir=\"auto\" aria-level=\"2\">\n<p id=\"viewer-zs81y82584\" class=\"dEt5S sjVPj J7otF nEzPS\" dir=\"\"><span class=\"Q-E3F\"><strong><em>Pressure in the Middle<\/em><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p id=\"viewer-w99tg143314\" class=\"dEt5S sjVPj J7otF nEzPS\" dir=\"\"><span class=\"Q-E3F\">Repeated pressure can cause tingling and numbness of the muscles of the fingers. However, this area is more protected because of the thick fascia witch surrounds the muscles of the little finger and thumb.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"rn-r2\" dir=\"auto\" aria-level=\"2\">\n<p id=\"viewer-v6er082587\" class=\"dEt5S sjVPj J7otF nEzPS\" dir=\"\"><span class=\"Q-E3F\"><strong><em>Pressure on the Thumb Side<\/em><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p id=\"viewer-6gu96156459\" class=\"dEt5S sjVPj J7otF nEzPS\" dir=\"\"><span class=\"Q-E3F\">Pressure falls on the mass of muscles at the base of the thumb, providing a level of protection.<\/span><\/p>\n<p id=\"viewer-jun5w162560\" class=\"dEt5S sjVPj J7otF nEzPS\" dir=\"\"><span class=\"Q-E3F\">Repeated pressure on the median nerve can cause tingling and numbness.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<div data-hook=\"rcv-block34\"><strong style=\"font-size: 16px;\">Hyperextension Consequences<\/strong><\/div>\n<div J7otF nEzPS\" dir=\"\"><span class=\"Q-E3F\"><strong>Bone Compression<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<div data-hook=\"rcv-block38\"><span style=\"font-size: 16px;\">The posterior regions of the carpal bones in both rows experience compression, <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 16px;\">particularly during hyperextension and when subjected to greater weight, creating
