How to make children love “healthy” food

It is reasonable that most children seem to prefer unhealthy foods, since the excess amount of sugar, salt, fats and preservatives make these foods “irresistible!”.
However, because good habits have to be developed at an early stage, you should make your children love healthy foods, so that they may choose foods that will give them all the necessary nutrients for a healthy body.
Are they trying to avoid fruits?
Place fruits in a visible location. Children are more likely to eat fruits if they have them in front of them all the time and if they can take the ones they want on their own. You should also prepare colourful fruit salads. If you have to, increase the temptation by adding a bit of honey or some melted chocolate!
Aren’t vegetables and legumes their favourites?
Find out which vegetables they seem to prefer and find alternative ways to add them to their diet. Make a pasta bake with lentils instead of minced meat. Add carrots, celery, even courgettes or eggplants in mashed potatoes!
Do they really hate fish?
Try putting fish in a burger! Don’t hesitate to add some ketchup, mayonnaise or anything your children like to eat.
Are they asking for pizza and burgers all the time?
Even fast food can become a healthy meal, if prepared at home, with materials that you yourselves will buy. Try to increase the amount of vegetables in these meals, so that you will turn them into real “nutritional values”!
And remember: children copy their parents’ habits, especially when it comes to food. It is thus more likely for them to eat what mum and dad is eating. This is why you should give the right example and let your children follow in your path!
