Is it possible to lose weight by walking?

Walking is the safest form of exercise. You might be able to lose  up to half a pound a week, depending on the duration and intensity of your walking.

It improves your health by reducing bad cholesterol, the risk of hypertension and the risk of diabetes. Think about it, it’s easy, effortless and you can enjoy it with your company.

Moreover, you lose extra pounds and boost your body. In a little while you will feel lighter and you will fit in your old clothes. The number of calories you can burn depends on  your  body weight and walking pace.

The average person will burn 400 calories per hour walking a normal pace for 4 miles (6.4 km) per hour. For better results, try using a pedometer to measure your activity.

The average person makes  2,000 steps per mile = 1,6 km and burns about 100 calories. Watching your pedometer, you can count how many calories you have burned and you can add steps to lose more weight.

Here are some ways to add move to your daily routine:

  • leave your car and go shopping on foot
  • Use the stairs instead of the elevator
  • Disembark from the public transport earlier
  • Walk the children to school so you will have more time with them
  • Make a visit to a friend on foot. You can ask relatives or friends to accompany you

Wear a pair of good shoes, dress comfortably and start. Our country’s good  weather allows you to be outdoor and this is the only motivation you need.

Go outside to enjoy sunlight, make your own path, walk quickly or slowly and include movement in your daily routine. Many studies around exercise and health have shown that walking at moderate intensity is beneficial. Start today!
