Meet “Staramaki”

“Staramaki” (from the words “wheat” and “kalamaki” that means straw)  is a drinking straw made from natural wheat stems.

Mesopotamians used it thousands of years ago to avoid sediment while drinking beer. A team of volunteers from Kilkis is currently working with producers, operators and businesses in order to dispose a product that could replace plastic straws.

The most important, however, according to the volunteers, is that this fact is a part of a general proses. “The chaining process for straw supply and coffee sediment exchange that will be launched from Kilkis this year.

The rest of Greece will receive the first batch of products around July “,said Mr. Kamberis το the radio station. “Staramaki will not be launched by a specific company, to avoid exclusive benefits “.
